Renowned contemporary artist Laxman Pai dies: Disappointment in the art world

 


Indian contemporary artist Padam Bhushan Laxman Pai died in Goa on Sunday night (14 March 2021).

He breathed his last at his home in Dona Paula, Goa. He was 95 years old.

Art life, education, art work of Lakshman Pai:

Laxman Pai was born on 21 January 1926 in Goa. He studied at the JJ School of Art, Mumbai from 1943 to 1947.

Laxman Pai has also been the Principal of Goa College of Art (1977 to 1987).

Laxman Pai is also known as Neo-Tantric artist.

Award:

Laxman Pai was awarded the Padma Shri in 1985 by the Government of India.

He was also awarded the "Padma Bhushan", the third highest civilian honor of the Government of India in 2018.

Apart from this, the Lalit Kala Akademi Award has been conferred 3 times (1961,62 63), followed by the Goa Government's State Award, then the Nehru Award (1995), and the highest civilian award of Goa.

Laxman Pai has worked in almost all mediums, watercolor, oil color, acrylic, ink.

Laxman Pai has shaped many forms of Indian classical music in his paintings.
