Jagannath Muralidhar Ahivasi are counted among the holiest artists of traditional Indian art. He was an art teacher, musician and poet as well as a high-quality painter. He also painted on the walls of Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House and the Assembly of Uttar Pradesh.
He marked the semi-circular "Chitralekha" in Delhi's Durbar Hall, which became very popular.
Shri Ahivasi was born (6 July 1901–1974) in Mathura (Baldev village).
He had prior education in Porbandar (Gujarat). His father Dhrupad was a high-quality vocalist.
Ahivasi was educated at the J J School of Art and the principal at the time was Gladstone Salomon who was greatly influenced by the art of Mr. Ahisva. And for this reason Mr. Ahivasi became an art teacher in this artist school and then head of the department.
In J. J. Art Of School, he taught many meritorious disciples, including K K habbar, Laxman Paig, Appa Bhai Almelkar, Dinesh Shah, Abdul Rahim etc.
In 1957 to 1966, he served as the Head of the Department of Painting Department, Kashi Hindu University.
